Herman's Hermits Starring Peter Noone

Black and White Memories (Stones)

Found this old picture in my files this morning and reflected on how many wonderful people had not made it all this way.

I think Brian Jones was a really big part of that early British scene that basically took on the whole world. Suddenly it was British music in the carts all over the world.

This picture was taken at one of the many television shows we did with the Stones in the 60s.

All us British bands (groups) knew each other and the UK scene was very small. We often shared rides with other groups.

After this `TV show in Birmingham I got a “lift” back to London in the Stones car. They had this big blue American car and a mad driver called Reg King and is one of my most memorable days as a teenager. Reg had a hammer and would drive close to vehicles and knock off their wing mirrors with his hammer, whilst driving!!!!! Something so shocking to the young Herman! What fun the Stones were. The Hermits were all going home to their parents houses for dinner and I was in a car with the Stones going to London with a madman driving.

Seeing Joey Molland of “Badfinger” (in your insta-pic)…….I can’t help but be reminded of the twisted tale of this band………(in the wake of hurricane Sandy and Halloween….I guess this story fits in well). I’ve enjoyed their music for many years, but am always saddened to think of Pete Ham’s and Tom Evan’s tragic suicides…….apparently instigated by being victims of the music business’s dark side…..the greed and dehumanization. You must’ve known these musicans Peter?! Money is far over-rated in this world……I wonder if it will bring on our own demise…..if it hasn’t already. Here we go…………a souling……

(more BASIL please…..) And a friend of mine called me last night and told me he got tix for us to see you in Feb. 2013………YEEEEHAAAW!!! It’s always uplifting to know one has a concert to look forward to…………….especially one of yours!!! (and everyone could use some uplifting news……especially now!)

Perhaps Claudia could get her own blog going…….it might solve this problem and go to a concert (somewhere….anywhere) instead of consistently complaining about Herman and the Hermits not coming to her!

I have a question for you, that I hope you will answer.
I have been listening to some older bands, like Iron Butterfly, Rush, ect. and really like the drum routines. Do you ever listen to them, or have met some of these guys? Just wondering what bands from that era you like. Maybe I didn’t word this question right, hope you understand what I am asking?
    Hope you can answer me!

    Participation time?

…in continuing a previous thread about listening to classic songs backwards…
What happens when you listen to Herman’s Hermits in reverse?

Here’s another fun one: playing two songs simultaneously. For example,
“One Little Pack of Cigarettes” + “Here Comes the Star” = “Ciggy Stardust”!

    Your turn:
    “Sunshine Girl” + “Moonshine Man” = ?????

    • Claudia B October 21, 2012 at 12:19 PM

In answer to the Herman’s Hermits part of the question, you’d probably get pretty bored because it wasn’t recorded with that in mind.

More interestingly, what would have happened if Reggie the Hammer had put it in reverse and flattened his tires running over those jagged remains of the mirrors he had previously smashed . . . . and the Stones and Peter had been stranded in the Middle Kingdom, in the middle of the night . . . . . maybe missing concerts or recording dates and maybe causing their careers to take different trajectories???

        …don’t underestimate Herman…
Listen to “Wonderful World” in reverse and you might hear snippets of Peter quipping:
“In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue”…
        “pi = 3.14″…
“Je parle tres bien en Francais”, etc.

It’s all in the mind, you know:)

Let’s give this blog recording one more spin…I heard:

    Side 1:
Brian Jones = Outright leader of the Stones!
Reg King = “Out left” (window) speeder of the Stones!

    Side 2:
Brian Jones = Left out (of the Stones’ legacy)? No way!
Reg King = Right out (of his driving mind)? That day!

Produced by Peter Noone = History rider/His-story writer

Am I right, or have I left something out?

We always tried to play all of the Beatles albums backwards for wisdom from John in particular, so you play from left to right, rather than right to left (help, I’ve started and I can’t stop….) da la Ob, di la Ob……;-)

Play “The Fool on the Hill” backwards, and you’ll catch John chanting,

“Jack and Jill went up the hill
        to see the Maharishi.
        When Jack came down,
        he wore a frown,
        and Jill said, “Something’s fishy.”

        Kinda catchy, isn’t it, Jill?

I’d say you can safely drop the “relic” mindset for the next few years, at least!

Love the picture of the ‘mad man’ driving!! Actually, I do remember a description of that ride (maybe in Keith Richards’ book) . . . . the Stones, especially, really surrounded themselves with some very borderline personalities! But, look at how very delicate Brian Jones looks . . . . even during what I presume to be his healthier days!

You rogue! Now looking back, it is all good. Any fears at the time whilst you were hammering down the highway?
