BeatlesFest (The British are coming) April 6th and 7th
A live action picture of Paul Revere telling me “The British are Coming again”.
Luckily for me, I was a part of the good British Invasion, and not many people have an argument other than It was the Beatles who started the British Invasion.
I went to see them in Urmston with Alan Wrigley and I have the ticket stub look.
Soon I am going to my first Beatlefest in New Jersey home of the Boss and Little Steven who just like myself were inspired to be better by the total fabness of the four.
Being in a band myself, I was not asked to choose a Beatle as my “Fave Rave” which was a girl thing anyway, and Jane Asher was not in the group yet!
The girls around my little town in the North West of England all had to choose a Beatle and my sister got John.
This served me well when I eventually ran into him, because I was the boy with the very hot sister called ……..?
At the Ad Lib he bought me a Bacardi. It was a 2 drink minimum and he said “You get 2 Cokes and I’ll get 2 Bacardis” and as I already smoked the same cigarettes as he, I offered him a Lark and of course he was always up for a lark, which was lucky for me, because I knew a lot of larks for my age.
Being in a beat group myself (as we were called back then and I still call myself myself) gave me many opportunities that other fans didn’t get.
Not many Beatles fans got to share a dressing room or jazz tobacco or a stage with the fabulous ones, but as Herman and the head Hermit I ingratiated myself upon their kindness on multiple occasions and until I could buy my own drinks and baccy.
Many is the time that I showed up at their dressing room door for a chat or a mumble and once as I talked to John Lennon at Wembley Pool he said “Hey Hermit they just announced you” and I ran up the ramp just in time to sing “She’s A Must To Avoid” on live tv in front of 20 million people. Thanks John. Or Noj as we loving call you.
One time I slid into a dressing room and Paul and George Martin were discussing compression and when I asked what compression was, Paul kicked me in the goalies. Not really. He explained how it worked and illustrated it with a Fats Domino recording that he knew I would know. Never embarrassed to be a fan, I had multiple fan type run ins. Memorably when John Lennon said “Blooy “ell “Erman your record is number one in America” I said “Thank you”
Not sure what for but Thank you again Noj!
