ELVIS PRESLEY and HERMAN in Hawaii on 360 day World Tour
In Hawaii on a day off from a 360 day World Tour, a dream came true for this boy Peter Noone.
Not many 17 year old boys got such amazing opportunities, but here I found my self shaking hands with the greatest singer of my generation. He was totally charming, amusing, friendly and funny. None of the things you heard about Elvis from his merry band of hanger-onners prepared me for his humour and quick-witted repartee.
What a thrill to meet such a giant of music.
Of course what I should have said was “I have every one of your recordings and so does my big sister Denise, and we think you are so much better than all your competition that people will be singing your praises for ever” but what I said was “When are you coming to England?” and from there it was all down hill in the art of conversation.
He remained charming and amusing but I could tell he was just trying to put me at ease, knowing that I didn’t have a bunch of lads with me who would guffaw at every single thing I said.
The DJ Tom Moffatt from KPOI in Honolulu had set up the meeting and I still don’t know how to tell him thank you, other than to always leave him in the photographs.
